Legal Status of The Interline
The Interline is a trademarked brand of The Interline Group Limited, a company registered in England and Wales, with a registered office at 1 Jeremy’s Barn, Lily Lanes, Ashton-under-Lyne, OL6 9AE, United Kingdom.
The Interline takes user privacy seriously and operates on a principle of least-knowledge. Any data we collect about our readers – whether captured passively or provided by you during the course of registering to download content or to access events and experiences – is treated according to the privacy policy set out herein, and is retained only as long as it is deemed materially relevant to our ongoing relationship with our readers.
Mailing lists
At no point in your interactions with The Interline, either through this website or through direct contact with any of our team, will you be automatically or implictly opted-in or added to any first or third party marketing automation or distribution lists.
If you are receiving email from The Interline, it is because you have provided explicit consent, which is held in a timestamped, ISO-compliant format alongside your email address. Any email correspondence you receive from The Interline will also contain a clearly-labelled, instant-access link to unsubcribe from the list that originated it.
The Interline maintains strict separation between our primary subscriber database and mailing list (to which our regular newsletters, podcast notifications, and events and sponsored notices are sent) and any email addresses or personal information provided to us as part of other initiatives, such as webinars or gated downloadable reports.
For example: if you provide your email address and any other personally identifiable information to The Interline in order to access a live webinar or downloadable report, you may receive an email from The Interline afterwards, asking if you would like to opt into that primary mailing list, but this will only ever be done on an informed consent and opt-in basis; we will never add you to our primary subscriber database implicitly or on an opt-out basis.
In this scenario: in the event that you chose to opt in, your email address would be transferred to our primary subscriber database. If you did not choose to opt in, you would receive no further contact from The Interline.
Commercial engagements, sponsors and partners
Where The Interline partners with one or more other commercial entities to create content or deliver experiences that require a reader to provide personal information to access, you will be informed that said personal information will be shared with the named partner(s) for the purposes of advertising and furthering theirs and our legitimate business interest, and you will need to explictly agree to this before being given access to that content or experience.
Beyond that point, The Interline will treat your personal information, email address and similar data according to our strict, GDPR-compliant policies.
Contact details
In addition to the above provisions that allow you to directly control how The Interline is permitted to email you, at any time you may contact The Interline using the address digital [at] theinterline.com to request visibility of any personal data we hold, to amend that data, to ask us to permanently remove it, to restrict any further processing of it, or to request that we not share it with partners.
(Please note that the latter request can only be actioned date-forward; information already duplicated and shared with commercial partners can be removed, amended, or restricted through action on The Interline’s part based on the data we hold, but alterations to copies of that data will need to be actioned by the third party, to whom The Interline will communicate your request).
That email inbox is monitored and any communications received to it should be addressed in a timely manner. If this does not occur, a further escalation request can be sent to editor [at] theinterline.com

In addition to the provisions set out in the introduction to this policy, we may also disclose your personal information to third parties:

Legal basis for processing
If you are from the EEA, our legal basis for collecting and using your Personal Data will depend on the personal data concerned and the specific context in which we collect it. However, we will normally collect and use personal data from you where the processing is in our legitimate interests and not overridden by your data-protection interests or fundamental rights and freedoms.
Typically, our legitimate interests include improving, maintaining, providing, and enhancing our technology, products, and services; ensuring the security of the services and our site; and for our marketing activities and partnerships.
In some limited cases, we may also have a legal obligation to collect personal data from you. If we ask you to provide personal data to comply with a legal requirement or to perform a contact with you, we will make this clear at the relevant time and advise you whether the provision of your personal data is mandatory or not, as well as of the possible consequences if you do not provide your personal data.
Where required by law, we will collect personal data only where we have your consent to do so. If you have questions about or need further information concerning the legal basis on which we collect and use your personal data, please contact us at support@theinterline.com.
Where we store your personal data
As a web-native company that makes extensive use of global technology infrastructure (especially when serving up this website, which uses edge caching) and enterprise software developed and maintained by non-European companies, the data that we collect from you may be transferred to, and stored at, a destination outside the European Economic Area (“EEA“) in the course of normal business operations.
By submitting your personal data, you agree to this transfer, storing or processing. We will take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that your data is treated securely and in accordance with this privacy policy, and as a UK company with employees exclusively based in the UK / EEA, The Interline will endeavour to retain as much of the processing activity associated with information provided to us within the UK and / or EEA as possible.
For example: The Interline is hosted on Google Cloud infrastructure and our editorial and business team uses the same cloud-native software used by the majority of global businesses (Google Workspace, Slack, Dropbox et al), so our control over the data transport and storage mechanisms employed by those platforms is limited.
Finally, the transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure. Although we will do our best to protect your personal data, and we continue to enforce HTTPS connections to this website, we cannot guarantee the security of your data transmitted to our site; any transmission is at your own risk. Once we have received your information, we will use strict procedures and security features to try to prevent unauthorised access, but not single company is completely infallible.
Your rights
As outlined in the introduction to this policy, you have the right to ask us not to process your personal data for marketing purposes. You can exercise your right to prevent such processing by checking certain boxes on the forms we use to collect your data. You can also exercise the right at any time by contacting us.
You have the following data protection rights: To access, correct, update, or request deletion of your personal data. We take reasonable steps to ensure that the data we collect is reliable for its intended use, accurate, complete, and up to date.
If you are a resident of the EEA, you can object to processing of your personal data, ask us to restrict processing of your personal data or request portability of your personal data. Again, you can exercise these rights by contacting us.
Similarly, if we have collected and processed your personal data with your consent, then you can withdraw your consent at any time. Withdrawing your consent will not affect the lawfulness of any processing we conducted prior to your withdrawal, nor will it affect processing of your personal data conducted in reliance on lawful processing grounds other than consent.
You have the right to complain to a data protection authority about our collection and use of your personal data. For more information, please contact your local data protection authority. We respond to all requests we receive from individuals wishing to exercise their data protection rights in accordance with applicable data protection laws. We may ask you to verify your identity in order to help us respond efficiently to your request.
Our site may, from time to time, contain links to and from the websites of our partner networks and advertisers. If you follow a link to any of these websites, please note that these websites have their own privacy policies and that we do not accept any responsibility or liability for these policies. Please check these policies before you submit any personal data to these websites.
Persistence of information
We retain personal data where we have an ongoing legitimate business or legal need to do so, and the retention periods vary. We would consider: Whether we have a legal or contractual need to retain the data. Whether the data is necessary to provide any services on our site. When we have no ongoing legitimate business need to process your personal data, we will either delete or anonymize it or, if this is not possible (for example, because your personal data has been stored in backup archives), then we will securely store your personal data and isolate it from any further processing until deletion is possible.
Changes to our privacy policy
